1899 Vassar College Associate Alumnae Annual Report – 29th Meeting

Issued for the association’s twenty-ninth annual meeting at Cleveland’s Hollenden Hotel on January 28, 1899, this institutional pamphlet is a primary-source record of women’s alumnae self-government. It documents elected officers and alumnae trustees, annual dues and association finances, necrology, and a nationwide Class of 1899 address directory.

Notable people recorded include alumnae trustees Ellen Swallow Richards ’70, a pioneer of sanitary science and home economics, and Helen Hiscock Backus ’73, one of Vassar’s pioneering alumna trustees. The Class of 1899 directory includes Helen K. Hoy, later known as suffrage lawyer and organizer Helen Hoy Greeley.

The photographed financial pages show a $1,643.15 operating account, a closing balance of $1,140.10, and a $1,308.47 paid-up-membership trust fund. The treasurer explains that general-association dues were $1 per year and separate from Western Branch dues.

Condition: GOOD, provisional photo-based grade. Visible age toning, scattered spotting/soil, page waviness, minor edge and corner wear, and localized gutter wear.
